Week of Rest Before Taft!

Posted by John "Shooter" Albright

Churchill Lady Chargers got off to a fast start against East Central last Tuesday night. Coach Moore (photo) worked in her whole bench resting the starters for most of the game. The Rest continued through this past weekend, that is if you can consider long hard practices rest. By the time Churchill tips off with Taft this Tuesday some of the Girls will be more than ready to get back to real game play. Taft visits the Chargers at Littleton Gym Tuesday night at 6:00pm. The Game will be the first half of a NEISD vs NISD Double hitter with Reagan and Stevens tipping off right after the Chargers finish.

Churchill Dominates East Central

Posted by John "Shooter" Albright

After Closing out last Season and breaking in some new faces the last thing Coach Moore wanted is for the Chargers to have a Regional Championship hangover going into the first game of the year. East Central came into the game at Littleton a bit undersized but fired up to be playing the Region's top team from 2006. That Fire would be extinguished quickly as the Chargers came out with a pressure defense and attacking offence and put away the Hornets Early.

The Chargers put up 22 first quarter points lead by 2nd year Varsity Player Kristen Kyrish. Getting most of her points inside Kyrish took advantage of the attention the hornets were giving to Christine Flores on the Post and dropped in 7 of her 9 points in the first frame. What was even more impressive than the 22 put up by the chargers is the fact the East Central did not draw a bucket in the First Quarter, and if it wasn't for a single Free-Throw the hornets may have been shut out for the first 8 min. The quarter ended with the Chargers posting a 22-1 lead.

The Second Quarter was much of the same as the Chargers extended their lead by scoring 11 points as Coach Moore emptied her bench. Ashley Burgamy (photo) lead the Chargers with 5 points in the quarter.

The Second half had the Lady Chargers put the game on Cruse Control. Belin Cusi making her first ever Varsity start for the Chargers did not score a point in the first half but came out and lit up the score book after the break. Cusi dropped in half of the Chargers 14 points in the third quarter and posted another 5 in the fourth to lead all Chargers in scoring with 12 on the night.

10 Chargers scored points in the contest as Churchill pushed to a 62-23 victory over the Hornets.

Christen Flores Dominated the middle for the short time she was in the game, blocking several shots and rebounding the ball on both ends. Flores also posted 9 points on the contest.
